Meditation is like guided imagery but think of it as focused on one thing, without any images. For instance, you can just pick one thought, maybe a picture you like, a photo or a real-life place. And just focus on that image and see the details in it. While focusing on that one thing you exclude all the outside stimuli that were bothering you. Lastly, you can focus on your own body. This is easy since its always with you, there is no thinking of any imagery or objects. Just focus on your own breathing, gently feeling your breath going in and out. Then start a mental inventory of your entire body from head to toes. Think of each part of your body, every muscle and part. Think of relaxing it, maybe actually physically twitch it once to acknowledge it and then relax it and move on to another part. By the time you relax your entire body you will be less stressed and ready to return to your original thoughts but now without stress.
